Salt & Pepper Mills
These are a set of spice mills. The original plan had been to make six, but one cracked and I haven't had the inclination to have another go yet. The oak ones are intended to be used for salt and the walnut ones for pepper as I thought it was nicer to distinguish between them with colour rather than having carved or stamped letters in the top. The woodturning was, of course, done using my home-made woodturning lathe, along with a home-made groove-cutting tool.
They're based on Crushgrind brand mechanisms. I've used an oak Crushgrind pepper mill pretty much daily for over ten years and it has continued to work flawlessly. They are nice and easy to adjust for a coarse grind (which I prefer) without losing the setting when you open the top. As I was so happy with the commercial mill, I had a strong preference for using the same type of mechanism when I made my own mills.
