Crushgrind Tool
This is a tool used for cutting internal grooves in a wooden body for a salt or pepper mill, using the excellent mechanisms made by Crushgrind. It's based very closely on a commercial tool made by Robert Sorby (link), but the tool is quite expensive (although they come up second-hand on ebay now and then) and, being fairly simple, I thought it would be better to make my own. The grooves are never going to be seen, so it doesn't matter if it doesn't leave a very good finish.
Part of the reason I made the tool was as a test of my home-made heat treatment oven. As part of the build log of that oven, I described the process of making the Crushgrind tool; you can read about that on page 35 of the build log.
You can see the salt & pepper mills I made using this tool on their own dedicated page. The build log for those mills includes some photos showing how the Crushgrind tool is used.
