Welded Nut Coasters

These are some coasters I made out of stainless steel M8 nuts. They would probably benefit from a cork base to be more conventional coasters but I made them mainly as a way of protecting a surface from a hot mug (and partly just as a way of practising welding).

I made six looking like the ones above and six without the gaps:

I also used a huge number of stainless M8 nuts to make a trivet:

The trivet has extra nuts welded on the bottom at the four corners as feet:

I am a hobbyist metalworker and woodworker. I work as an electronic design engineer and spend most of my working days in front of a computer so I enjoy having the opportunity to use my hands and make things in my spare time. I particularly enjoy making tools as I can then use them on other projects. This website showcases some of the things I've made.
