Japanese Lamp

This is a simple lamp I made based on a design from Axminster tools. The only design change I made to the Axminster lamp is that I added a cross-piece on the bottom frame with a disc inset into it. That supports a bulb holder (with the Axminster design the light would have to sit on the table on which the lamp sits rather than being integral). I followed the design but not the method, although my method wasn't especially different to the Axminster one: the main differences being that I used a router plane for some of the joints and I used a different jig for cutting the half-laps for the slats. Everything was done with hand tools.

The frame is made of American Black Walnut; the Kumiko is Obeche (bought as 5 mm square strips). The paper is Shoji paper but I fixed it in place with wood glue rather than using the more traditional rice glue.
