Bandsaw Restoration: Swarf Slide

After testing the initial fit, I removed the side panel and drilled lots of holes in it. Using an idea from Dr Mike Cox, I bought a short length of 110 mm × 50 mm rectangular plastic tubing from the local hardware shop (I assume it's intended for ventilation or something like that.). I then cut lots of pockets in it with my Fein Multimaster (the photo above was taken before I also cut a section out of the bottom and later removed the reinforcing piece at the top (as it got in the way of the switch housing).

I drilled lots of holes in the side panel (shown in the right-hand photo) and mounted the two together.

This photo shows how the two pieces fit together. The swarf slide is not complete in this photo as I used one of the cut-out sections (and some "no more nails" glue) to block in the original hole at the bottom (so all the swarf drops out of the newly cut hole) and I removed the top web as mentioned above.
