Bandsaw Restoration: Vice Modifications

The leadscrew for the vice has (as you would expect) a face that is perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. When tightening the vice, this bears upon the casting surface to force the moving jaw against the work piece. However, the casting has a sloping surface and hence this isn't ideal.

To rectify this problem, I measured the draft angle of the casting and made a washer that has one face set at the same angle as the casting. This provides a good running surface for the leadscrew to work against.

The outer end of the leadscrew is held in place with a circlip. The angle of this relatively to the casting is less important as it is only acting when the vice is being loosened. I therefore decided to leave this as is.
