Simple Hinge Jig for Boxes
This simple jig is used for drilling hinge holes in small wooden boxes. It is made out of a piece of aluminium angle, with a aluminium flat plate screwed onto the end and two brass inserts glued into holes drilled in the sides. There is a also a simple brass tube that is used as a spacer.
The inside view of the jig shows the brass inserts, which have their centres 4 mm from each side. The hole through the brass inserts is 4 mm diameter.
In use, the drill goes through the hole in the brass inserts, and the brass spacer tube limits the depth that the drill can go.
The use of the jig is described in detail in the description of making a tea caddy on page 132 of my travel tool chest build log.
