Router Plane Upgrades

The photos above show the first of two simple modifications I've made to a couple of router planes I own. It allows more accurate control of the height of the cutter in a Record #722, in much the same way that you can adjust the cutter height on a Veritas large router plane or a Stanley #71. It's not an original idea: it was based on something I saw on a woodworking forum and decided to copy. Unfortunately, I can't find the original post now, so I can't credit the originator.

The Record #722 had two 6 mm holes for the cutter, spaced 20 mm apart. The clamping screw is shared between the two holes:

I drilled a hole in between the two cutter holes and tapped it M5, not letting the tap go all the way through so that I could tighten a bit of threaded rod into the hole:

M5 has a 0.8 mm pitch, which is fairly close to the pitch of the (inch-sized) screw that is fitted to the Veritas router plane.
